Baguira is a former circus lioness from the poor province of Tucuman, in the north of Argentina. She was the first international rescue mission.
In August 2015, the local police learned about a then 9-year-old circus lion, stuck in a small trailer. They learned the tigress was locked up in this small, inhumane trailer for over 4 years, never leaving her cage.
Baguira was severely malnourished and weighing only 80 kilograms. Her will to live further had vanished. According to the vet at the scene, it was “a matter of months” before she would die. Baguira was confiscated by the authorities and immediately she recovered. However, every intent to find her a safe forever home failed.
With the help of the Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary in Stanford (South Africa) we were able to give her the beautiful home she so much deserved.
Baguira will stay here for the rest of her life.
